We love coming here each week. Everyone is so friendly and Miss Lindsey is amazing to work with! She has helped my son with his tongue tie, mouth breathing, and overall quality of sleep. Lindsey is always so energetic and my son is so excited to see her each week. It is worth the drive from Nampa to come to this wonderful clinic.

Love the speech teachers. My kids have made great improvement since coming here, especially my youngest who we could barely understand when we started a couple years ago. They were able to give us insight into underlying causes that other places had missed. Highly recommend. Love the front staff, they are always friendly and helpful.

Mrs. Thomas is a joy to work with and has walked alongside us with patience and kindness for every step of our son’s speech journey. I would recommend her to anyone in need of orofacial or speech therapy and would choose her again in a heartbeat. The staff at BS&H have been great to work with as well. A much better experience than the first office we had been recommended.

Excellent service and the therapists are extremely knowledgeable. We have enjoyed our time with Becky as she had helped my kids with their myotherapy. She has worked together with our dentist, Dr. Rire to address concerns.

Dr Rian Chatterton was excellent to work with to help my son stop sucking his thumb! 30 days and he was done – and we saw visible improvement in his teeth! She was so kind and engaged with my kiddo! Would recommend to any parent hoping to help any kid stop sucking their thumb!

Frequently Asked Questions
- How old do you need to be to start myofunctional therapy?
Traditional myofunctional therapy is ideal for anyone over the age of 4. For children under 4, we provide feeding therapy, lactation services, and speech & language therapy.
- What is the difference between myofunctional therapy, speech therapy, and feeding therapy?
Myofunctional therapy focuses on retraining the muscles of the tongue, lips, and face to correct improper patterns that affect breathing, swallowing, and jaw development. Speech therapy addresses communication difficulties such as articulation, language, fluency, and voice, while feeding therapy helps individuals who struggle with the mechanics or sensory aspects of eating and drinking safely.
- Do I need a referral to begin therapy?
Depending on your specific insurance policy. For most government insurance, such as Medicaid, Tricare, and Medicare, referrals are always required from your PCP.
- How long will it take to complete myofunctional therapy?
Depending on individual needs, diligence in doing home exercise programs, and regular attendance, it can range from 9 to 12 months.
- How often are therapy sessions?
Weekly for 30 minutes per session.
- Is myofunctional therapy covered by insurance?
Yes
- What makes your clinic different from other clinics that offer myofunctional therapy?
Our team of specialized therapists brings over 30 years of experience and a commitment to staying current through continuing education and the latest research in the field. Unlike many myofunctional therapy providers, we bill insurance and offer multiple specialists under one roof.
- Can a tongue tie affect breastfeeding?
Absolutely! A tongue tie can significantly restrict the tongue’s movement and make it difficult for a baby to latch properly, leading to painful or ineffective breastfeeding for both mom and baby.
- Can a tongue tie cause speech problems?
Absolutely! A tongue tie can restrict the tongue’s range of motion, making it difficult to produce certain sounds clearly and contributing to speech delays or articulation challenges.
- How is the tongue tie release procedure performed?
Tongue tie release is a quick, minimally invasive procedure performed using our LightScalpel CO2 laser, which offers precision, reduced bleeding, and faster healing compared to traditional methods. Our clinic follows specific protocols tailored for infants versus older children and adults, ensuring each patient receives the most appropriate and effective care for their age and needs.
- How long does the tongue tie release procedure take?
For infants, less than 15 minutes. For older children and adults, up to 45 minutes.
- Is any therapy required before or after a tongue tie release?
For infants, we require lactation and/or feeding therapy, body work, and follow-up appointments. For older children and adults, a minimum of 6 visits of myfunctional therapy before, and 6 visits after.
- Can I see a lactation consultant before my baby is born?
Absolutely, we actually encourage every expecting parent and their partner to schedule a lactation consultation before baby arrives, so you are both informed, prepared, and confident from the very first feeding.
- My baby won’t latch - can you help?
Latching difficulties are one of the most common reasons families come to us, and our team is experienced in identifying and addressing the underlying causes to help make breastfeeding a more comfortable and successful experience for both you and your baby.
- I think I have low milk supply - can you help increase it?
Our lactation consultants are experienced in evaluating the many factors that can affect milk supply and will work with you and your partner to create a personalized plan to help support and increase your production.
- It hurts when I breastfeed - is this normal?
While some initial discomfort is common, breastfeeding should not be consistently painful — and our lactation consultants can help identify the cause, whether it is latch, positioning, tongue tie, or something else, and get you on a more comfortable path quickly.
