Supporting Healthy Feeding from the Very Beginning

At the Center for Orofacial Myology, we believe that healthy oral function begins at birth—and it starts with effective infant feeding. Whether you’re nursing, bottle-feeding, pumping, or doing a combination of all three, feeding is the foundation for a baby’s oral development, airway health, and overall growth.

That’s why our lactation support services are a key part of our mission. From the moment your baby is born, how they feed impacts everything from jaw growth and facial development to breathing and sleep quality. Our clinic’s integrated care model looks at the full picture—feeding mechanics, oral structures, and family goals—to ensure babies and parents are set up for long-term success.

What to Expect from a Lactation Consultation

Every family’s feeding journey is different, and so are the challenges they may face. Our lactation consults are designed to be individualized, comfortable, and solutions-focused. Whether you’re a brand-new parent or looking for support months into your journey, we’re here to help.

During a consultation, Katrina will observe a feeding (if applicable), examine your baby’s oral structures, assess your milk supply, and provide hands-on support and education. You’ll leave with a clear, customized plan—and the reassurance that you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Common reasons for booking a lactation consult include:

Prenatal Lactation Education

Learn what to expect with breastfeeding, how to prepare, and how to recognize early challenges before they escalate.

Painful Nursing or Nipple Damage

If you’re experiencing pain, cracks, bleeding, or discomfort during feeding, we help identify the root cause—often related to latch or oral structure issues.

Low Milk Supply or Oversupply

Whether you’re producing too little or too much milk, we offer strategies to bring your supply into balance and support your baby’s needs.

Tongue Tie or Lip Tie Concerns

Babies struggling with latch, falling asleep during feeds, or making clicking noises may benefit from an oral evaluation to check for structural restrictions like tongue-tie.

Bottle Refusal or Returning to Work

We help transition to pumping and bottle feeding, build return-to-work plans, and troubleshoot feeding preferences.

Weaning Support

We offer compassionate guidance for gentle weaning—whether you’re planning to stop breastfeeding at a certain time or navigating unexpected changes.

Lactation Visits Are Often Covered by Insurance

Many families are surprised to learn that lactation consultant visits are covered by insurance—especially when working with an IBCLC. We proudly partner with:

  • The Lactation Network – Check eligibility and get pre-approved coverage through your insurance.
  • Wildflower Health – A digital maternal health network that offers breastfeeding support through various insurance plans.

We encourage you to check your coverage in advance. If your insurance does not currently partner with either group, we’re happy to provide superbills for reimbursement or offer private pay options.

The Center for Orofacial Myology: Where Lactation Meets Oral Health

What sets our clinic apart is our deep understanding of how oral function, airway development, and feeding are all connected. Many lactation challenges—such as shallow latch, slow weight gain, or extended feeding times—are actually symptoms of an underlying oral function issue.

Because we work closely with providers who specialize in orofacial myofunctional therapy, craniosacral therapy, tongue-tie release, and airway support, we’re able to address feeding challenges with a comprehensive, root-cause approach that helps your baby thrive—not just survive.

Whether you’re breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or bottle-feeding, our goal is the same: to make sure your baby is feeding well, gaining weight, and developing strong, functional oral habits from day one.
